I reworked the Heritage Grove Federal Credit Union app to make it more accessible for different types of users. My main goals for this project were to increase legibility, utilize more space, and create easy to follow mobile deposit and messaging features that were missing in the original app design.
One of issues that needed to be addressed in the original design was the app’s small typefaces. In a user study, I found that over 90% of participants, aged 18 to 62, said the type was too small to read, as well as lack contrast in the color scheme for clear legibility. To address this issue, I increased the type size to no smaller than 10 px, and gave the app an updated color scheme that holds more contrast. I also added an optional swipe password to speed up the log in process.
The mobile deposit feature on Heritage Grove’s app was difficult to follow, used unusual language, and required many steps. By simplifying the steps, I condensed the deposit process into fewer screens. I used friendly and common words to personalize the experience, as well as to make the process easy to follow.
